Alice Carbone does an outstanding job serving elderly people in the communities surrounding Connections Church.
She is an ordained minister with Rocky Veach Ministries, faithfully following the Lord’s will for her life and helping the local church fulfill a big part of its job here!
This is Alice’s story:
God’s direction, God’s words and God’s timing. It’s been 2 years 7 months since God blessed me with this ministry. Years ago my pastor in Colorado tried to get me to do nursing home visits with our church, I refused. I did go once, but never again. Truth is I hated being there, I couldn’t see what good it would do. I had dozens of reasons none of which makes any sense now. Well, God does have a since of humor.
Throughout the years, the Lord continued to teach, soften my heart and show me what a mighty God we serve. I could feel my heart changing, everything within me was changing and I longed to know and do His will, not my will, but yours, I prayed. Then one morning in prayer I asked the Lord to make Acts 1:8 my life. ..”But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” For a split second I was shocked at the words coming out of my mouth, for so long I had avoided that complete surrender. This was it, the big change, the surrender of my life to the one that I claimed to truly love and would follow. Little did I know that I would be on a mission trip to Africa in another month, with my pastor from Colorado. I was asked to be the prayer leader in Ethiopia.
The trip to Africa was a huge learning experience. I prayed over hundreds of people daily, Old people, young people and children, sick, diseased, missing limbs, those who knew the Lord and those who didn’t, etc. They lived in huts made from mud with straw and bamboo, the ground was their floor. Oh, there was so much more, and my heart was filled with so much love for each and every one of them. They were so poor, yet always smiled and showed so much love and warmth. That experience changed my life forever.
God’s given me a ministry that I love so much, and have reached so much happiness in my life because of it. But it really isn’t about me, it’s about Him, the Lord. God loves people, so how can I say I love him and not love His people. You see, “He has chosen me as His vessel to bring comfort to them who are near the end of their time.” We are ALL His vessels. I visit nursing home residents, hospital patients and am starting in hospice care. At the nursing homes, I visit those residences without family and little or no visitors. I visit each facility one day a week and each facility works with me in compiling an updated list. Often I’ll get calls asking me to visit someone who is new or a person or persons who are depressed or going thru a rough time. I visit, anywhere from 70 to 85 people a week.
I’m there to serve them and when I walk into those rooms and see the look on each face, it says everything. I leave them for the day feeling so much love, oh, what an abundance I’ve received back! I listen, which is most important, pray for and over them, read scripture and encourage them and we have a great time laughing together. I am so blessed, seeing healings, planting seed and praying with others for their salvation. They ask about the Bible I always carry with me, there’s always questions, and I joyously take the opportunity to talk to them about the Lord, His love and His wonderful gift to us all. God’s direction, God’s words, God’s timing, God’s WILL!
